CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES OF DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION IN THE SOCIETY 5.0 ERA: A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW

The Society 5.0 era presents both challenges and opportunities for the implementation of Civic Education (PKn) across educational levels, from junior high school, senior high/vocational school, to higher education. This study aims to identify and synthesize the challenges and opportunities of digital civic education across educational levels through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) guided by the PRISMA framework. A search was conducted across academic databases such as Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, DOAJ, Garuda, and Sinta using relevant keywords, resulting in nineteen sources that met the inclusion criteria after identification, screening, and eligibility assessment. The findings indicate that the main challenges include digital infrastructure gaps, low digital competence among teachers and students, the spread of hoaxes and hate speech, and the still-limited integration of digital ethics into the civic education curriculum. Meanwhile, identified opportunities include the use of online learning models, blended learning, gamification, immersive technologies (AR/VR), and artificial intelligence for personalizing civic-value instruction. This study recommends strengthening teachers' digital competence, developing a civic education curriculum responsive to the digital era, and fostering cross-stakeholder collaboration to realize responsible digital citizenship at every level of education.
