AN ANALYSIS OF WRITING TASK ACTIVITIES USED IN AN EFL TEXTBOOK ENTITLED BUPENA ENGLISH FOR THE ELEVENTH GRADE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL BASED ON RAIMES THEORY AND BASIC COMPETENCY OF 2013 CURRICULUM

Abstract


This study aims to describe the types of writing task activities in an EFL textbook based on Raimes Theory and its compatibility to Basic Competency of Curriculum 2013. To fulfill this aims, descriptive qualitative approach was conducted. This study used Bupena English Textbook for Grade XI as the source of data. There are three steps of collecting the data; reading, identifying and classifying. The data were analyzed through four steps; selecting the task provided in the textbook, categorizing the writing task provided based on Raimes theory, coding the data based on chapter, the title of the book activity and page, and last, formulating the data, referring to the schema of quality classification proposed by Arikunto (2010). The result of this study reveals that there are ten types of writing task activities based on Raimes Theory and the percentage of its compatibility to Basic Competence of 2013 Curriculum is 88,89%. It means that the writing task provided in the textbook is very good or in another words, the writing task provided in the textbook are able to facilitate the students to achieve the competency of writing skill.
